Purpose of Journal Bearing

Function of Journal Bearings:
- to support radial loads in shafts, rotors
- to align and guide the rotating shaft
- to reduce friction
- to cushion radial motion of shaft (journal)

Features, Characteristics, Uses of Journal Bearings:
- type of plain bearing aka radial bearing, friction bearing, rotary bearing, sleeve bearing
- consists of the journal (shaft) and the bearing surface
- used in high power industrial machinery
- used in high load applications
- used in steam turbines, centrifugal pumps, centrifugal compressors

Purpose of Thrust Bearing:
- is a type of rotary bearing
- to support axial loads to the shaft
